COMPRESSOR: ORANGE KONGPRESSOR ...world premier review

ORANGE

KONGPRESSOR OPTICAL COMPRESSOR

The bean counters at ORANGE have learnt to sit and squirm and let the designers ...design. LOL
The result has been some successful product. First with their amps and now with guitars and pedals.
In fact the Orange O Bass was so good that the launch of it in the US was halted because the product designated for it was used just to fill the Brit back orders.(In fact my bass player ordered one from Korea to beat the delays)
Last week was the Namm 2017 Show introduction of the new compressor.

So the Kongpressor is an optical compressor based off of several high end studio compressors from the past. They all had one thing in common. They used the class A ...Vactrol VTL5C3 optocoupler.
The part has just been re-released. So the Orange engineers jumped on it.

The unit has an active treble control as all optic compressors eat highs.
The unit sounds so good left on even with the compression left on zero that they gave it a 12 db boost to double as a booster and they also put in a very transparent buffer to keep this tone enhancement when the pedal is off. If you ever heard a Klon turned down to zip you will know how this can sometimes work.

At $150.00 USD this is a bargain, competitive models charge $200.00 USD or more often much more and were designed before the Vactrol became available.

The down side is it is yet another big pedal.
I must admit they have done a good job on the graphics...the colours and shapes work well and we get some great tongue in cheek humour that only the Brits can do so well.
