FUZZ- BOSS FZ-2W Hyper Fuzz ___NEW ! ___ a Uni-Vox Super Fuzz 2 on steroids!!!

BOSS FZ-2W HYPER FUZZ

The Japanese Shin-ei FY-6 octave Fuzz was a milestone.
It was sold in America as the Univox Super Fuzz.
The blueprint for dozens of modern Doom etc. Fuzz pedals.
Before it became that Boss became the first to
borrow that blueprint and hot rod it in 1993.
Fuzz is an in your face sound. They constantly
fall in and out of fashion so by 1997 sales tanked
and Boss killed it. They had done a killer job so
many modern builders skip the original and
make their Fuzz by starting with the Boss version.
So Boss thought WTF, why not bring it back
with a Waza Craft take on it.
CONCLUSION
WTF? Where's the demo???
Don't rush out to get one. You can't. No it is not released. Production and shipping has been blocked by endless new Covid infections which has already had the release date changed twice. Boss made an official video but pulled it so checking out the original will have to do.

  1. Hey Paul can you elaborate a bit? Where is the idea that an FZ-2W has ever been on the radar or mentioned for release?

Fans have been asking for it but we have been screwed over twice now with the Tone Bender and the FZ-1w.

  2. I used to work for Ibanez as a product specialist. At NAMM all the product specialists get together for a meal and swap gossip. I met the Roland/Boss guy when the companies weren't so separated. The point is for decades I kept in touch. The release date was planned for Feb 2022 but even the date was changed twice. I also know that Boss will ship about 20 to 30 pedals out to reviewers so they all can have a video for a certain date. Add to that certain stores will get heads up promo pics etc.to post to their online store. Then with Covid new delays will happen if ships cannot dock and unload. So even if they announce a date to buyers it could still get held up. I know about a lot of cool stuff but if I post it publicly before my sources tell the tell me it's OK they will get into trouble and then they will stop telling me anything. Worse than that, if the word gets around I got someone dropped into it then I will lose other guys at other companies. I have insiders at a lot of companies including Gibson and Fender. Guys that even know about prototypes. Some will get made some won't but nothing I can share. Unless I am vague. Like a clone modeler that should arrive this year that is easily as good as the most famous and prized but will sell for a quarter of the price about $500.00 USD that a source in Taiwan has seen and heard.

  3. Hi Paul, I love your review of the Boss Hyper Fuzz. I have one that I acquired used back in the early 2000’s, so I assume it’s from the 1990’s era. I originally used the pedal only as a boost, the fuzz thing was (for me) very passé, a part of my sonic past that I wished to leave behind. HOWEVER, with the resurrection of all things fuzz related I have revisited the pedal and … holy sh1t!!! Great massive tones, I love diming all the controls and putting a gate in front. Massive riffage indeed! Take care Paul, your blog is required reading for me, love the reviews!
