FUZZ- JOHNNY ROCK GEAR Octofuzzy ...classic Tycobrahe Octavio?

JOHNNY ROCK GEAR OCTOFUZZY
$140.00 USD
J. Rock are a Canadian company in Montreal Quebec where the working language is French as you will see in the videos :-) Not even the painting and silk-screened graphics are farmed ot everything is done in house old school.
If you heard the original that Hendrix used you would be amazed how damn close this is. It has all the rich harmonics without most modern pedals that smear the harmonics.
The layout is simple with just volume and gain. A toggle tames the octave so you can use the pedal more as a old school hardclipper distortion pedal. It is not dumbed down either. A lot of pricey hardclippers do not come close.
CONCLUSION
Ideal pedal to get into octave Fuzz. Great sound and for a handmade  pedal & more than fair price. I would expect $200 or more for a
pedal this good.

  2. There are 3 approaches to making an Roger Mayer Octavio pedal used by Hendrix. But first some background. The first by Roger was shaped like a flying saucer and had a nasty nearly middy low end and highs near out of control his second was tighter and a bit better everywhere. It was licensed to Tycobrahe but they went under. The very same pedal is now made by Chicago Iron but is $400.00 USD. Originals cost in the thousands so pretty much every designer buys the Chicago Iron to use to copy or at least as a comparison to try and improve on. So...some go for a very good clone, others with even crazier high end octave effects and others try to give it a near Doom Death Metal vibe. The Johnny Rock tries to sit in the middle.
E-H took a very different approach. With the originals the higher you push the gain the more lows you loose. E-H added the lows back in. They also kept the crazy stuff pushed back like the Tycobrahe.
The 'Johnny' has a sound that sits nicely in the middle and still keeps the price reasonable. Even so it is crazy enough that in a band playing tunes it will not fit into a lot of tunes. The E-H is like their Muff where it is nice and full and with some restraint could be used in many tunes. I spend most of my playing singing and accompanying myself so if I bought one I would get more use out of the E-H because I could use it both as an out front or behind my voice pedal. The $115.00 USD is more than fair as well. E-H pedals pop up used a lot so you may find one dirt cheap.
