FUZZ- MANLEY SOUND LTD. MK 3... 1968 Tone Bender MkIII clone

MANELY SOUND
MK3 FUZZ
$300.00 USD
In the current era this is the least favorite of the 3 Tone Benders using germanium transistors. I think it is because it's more polished voice makes it sound closer to what we get out of a modern high gain Overdrive then what we now think of as 'Real Fuzz'.
At its inception many loved it  because of its never seen before OD features and near OD sound. Studios applauded its ability to allow amps to be turned down. That said, overall the MkII sold the most and the MkI did better than the MkIII as well.
Page and his contemporaries were big on the MkII.
The layout is Volume, Tone and Gain.
     CONCLUSION ___
It sounds excellent but it indeed does sound similar to many modern overdrives. Myself I love both V.1 and V.2.
I have an all original parts V.3 with chronic germanium-itis.
It has all the worst of the problems with germanium hating
voltage fluxuations or air temperature changes. It even dies
on one day but works the next. Most days it starts off good but
then gets all thin and trashy like a really bad Garageband Fuzz.
BUT!!! WTF ...I do love this Manley!!!

...the Tol Red Germanium Fuzz is a Mk II Tone Bender.
It is well made and with a similar spec using NOS
Germanium transistors. Being a v.2 it is more raw and
aggressive. It even comes in a vintage style slanted top
enclosure. Without prices I would give them a tie.
The Big But is  ...the Tol Red is only $130.00 USD!!!!
