OVERDRIVE- BOSS Metal Zone ..the most hated pedal ever made. BUT!!!

 BOSS MT-2 METAL ZONE DISTORTION
$100.00 USD
(used from $35)

Yes the most hated pedal ever made. However it is and has been
for years Boss's biggest seller. It is there second best seller ever and after 30 years it may soon be number one! Yes the original 'big' dirt DS-1 still hangs in.
When it came out nothing short of a a gourmet stack was used to make a Modern Metal sound. Know it is common for a Pro to use a pedal through a smaller amp.
You can even get a WAZA Craft big bucks hand made one. It is all about grindingly nasty distortion so perhaps lovers of the standard model find it stupid for Boss to add some elegance to it by doing a WazaCraft. Why would you put suit and tie on a commando ???
The layout is a bit creative. You have of course level and gain but the Highs and Bass are stacked. You also have the mids and it is stacked with a sweep from 300 in the low mids up to 5 k. The tone goes from really heavy dirt all the way up to stupid!

Recently guys like Simon Neil of Biffy Kyro turned down the WazaCraft version because he thought it wasn't as good. Boss had removed all the vulgarity.
If you have not heard of Simon ...you will!
Dates for the cancelled 2020 tour are being rescheduled
and new dates are constantly being added do to scary sales
of the bands last recording.
CONCLUSION
I have pedals that are even more extreme and they are quite effective with really heavy power chords and riffs. BIG BUT! You can not shred with them. The visual comparative is a hippo doing an Olympic sprint.
The MT can sprint quite nicely. Thank you very much!!!
What's more it can be beautifully sweetened by going thru a fairly authentic sounding Plexi Pedal.
With hundreds of really cheap used ones always up for grabs. WTF ...Why not?
As for me.. I HAVE heard Simon Neil! So...before I Posted this review
I ordered the pedal. Good condition $55. I will be back for a ...HANDS ON update very soon as the seller is only about 100 mi. away.

HANDS ON
The Metal Zone gets it bad rap because it is intuitive to scoop the crap out of it
the second you click on the switch. This setting will produce lows that will become hippo dung and highs that will sound like a swarm of angry bees trying to fight their way out of tin can.
The EQ has a very large range to it. The mids especially. These knobs can dial in the perfect of perfect sound but one change in a range from 1 to 10 ...from say 7 to 7.5 and your killer sound goes from killer to dog sh@t.
A pain??? Maybe but on your buddies amp 7.5 is the sweet spot not 7. It is what actually makes this pedal brilliant!!! You can dial in exact tones.
Check out the video below. The guy shows you how to get the tone he wants when before trying it he really thought very improbable.
