All the Big Muffs have their following but in '73 the Ram's Head came out and was the first that had nearly the kind of sound we now prefer from a very refined high gain OD. Put through a Marshall Plexi it was a killer combination and really acted as your high gain channel when a Marshall did not even have a master volume.
I got mine ASAP because from the very first Fuzz the Maestro FZ-1a Fuzztone I was into dirt pedals.
I did indeed use it with my 50 watt Marshall Plexi half stack.
So how does the EH reissue stack up?
In the last 10 years there have been many clones. some faithful to the original but most were beep ups. Yes the new and improved. Some did a great job others lost there way etc. The reissue is arguably not perfect but any changes are really insignificant to the average player who wants a great sound not an argument about
how much lint was not picked off of it. Last year I got the
Is an apple better than an orange? WTF
Both sound great and are instant keepers that even if they
do not move sonic mountains are a joy to play.
CONCLUSION
What's not to like. A great sound that a Fuzz guy should really have.
Better still a great Fuzz for a guy that is sure he hates a Fuzz.
That guy has maybe not given Gilmour a really good listen.
You would not want to bet you wouldn't prefer this over
a gourmet special in a blindfold test.
