A medium gain OD by today's standard but in the 70's it
was one of the highest gains out there. This is identical to the original
with just a bit more of everything but side by side with an old pedal the tiny difference in sound is inconsequential. A lot of makers try to beef up reissues only to muddy the tone for more gain.
This and the a reissued old Ross compressor were released last year by Bud Ross whose grandfather Cameron Ross designed the Ross pedals and ran the company.
Early ODs were based on OpAmps like the BOSS DS-1 and the Tube Screamer and are still as popular as ever. It is great to have the Ross back as it a fresh choice over the Ibanez and Boss
A great box. I have a couple of Tube Screamer based pedals which are actually more useful than exciting. I find this has more character. It is going right on this guy's short list.
Check out the old Ross vs. the New Ross. The new distortion is tiny bit fatter and a tiny bit brighter in the highs.
