About 20 years ago Pigtronix one of the first gourmet pedal makers made an optic guitar comp the Philosopher's Tone when absolutely all others made a basic MXR Dyna Comp clone. It was a double pedal with Germanium OD in it. This is a modern Mini pedal take on it. Used with a dimed tube amp both sound killer. But??? If your setup is clean or set to unity gain except for heavy thick endless sustain leads it is just plain muddy.
CONCLUSION ___
There are still enough guys playing stacks etc. to find them dead cool. What I think is even more cool is you can get the Mini Philosopher's Tone with silicon diodes voiced to sound like a germanium but mud free. Stacked on any dirt pedal it adds warmth and more sustain. I have had one on my board for 9 years and still love it. The Guitar Center and other stores still have a few hundred left of the Gold and are doing a $99 blow out price. The Philosopher's Tone version is a big seller so it is still $120.00 USD.
WTF ...just skip a meal at McDonalds and you can pay the difference, LOL
