Most of us got hooked on wanting a Uni-Vibe initially by Hendrix. Many of us bought one only to wonder WTF!!! In short it seemed so bad as to be unusable. The key thing to remember is Hendrix had a Fuzz and was using a Plexi with it fully cranked. If you have some modest Combo amp you may find you really need to put a Fuzz going into the Uni-Vibe and a fairly high gain OD pedal after that, then into your amp.

MXR Uni-Vibe 

It is already quite dirty so just a Fuzz going in does the trick. It is why I use it. Simple and effective and is voiced to what you heard on recordings not to the original pedal.

I do 32 tunes and use it on 5. My guess is you probably don't need more. At $150.00 USD it was a nobrainer choice for me.
