MAYFLY AUDIO DEMON GIRL FUZZ
I just heard about this company but then again I felt I already had heardof them. It is because in the past for a few months I worked part time in high end consumer Audiophile shop. Mayfly is Trevor May an electrical engineer with some 40 years experience and a quite reasonable good guitar player who has invented a unique kind of HiFi speaker cabs that sell for $3500 to $8000 a pair. WTF!!! The speakers get very good reviews but the speakers are not very competitive with many others that get equally glowing reviews.Mayfly seem to have about 10 pedals. One of everything. Expertise on every kind of pedal made by a one man outfit makes me highly suspicious of what we will get. That said the guy can play and he is not your average self taught builder that has just got past the only making a DIY kit.
The layout of the Fuzz is volume gain and crush. Turning the Crush to the right gives you less compression and more highs. A toggle gives you a low end boost. The pedal uses 4 transistors which is unusual. There is zip for specs which I find odd from an engineer. They definitely sound like silicon transistors.
CONCLUSION __
Ol' Trevor says the Fuzz is based off of the classic late 60's Brit Fuzzes. WTF ...which one????
Not even the v4 Tone Bender silicon Fuzz sounds remotely like this. All the other are 2 transistor germanium Fuzz pedals. If it is? Then buyer beware, LOL. The overall vibe is very Big Muff like.
There is a near OD like sound when the guitar is pulled back. It would definitely sub as an OD
but it is not your grandads Tone Bender/Fuzz Face old school Fuzz.I can not fault it for what it is ...an average but good Muff sounding Fuzz for reasonable price for a small builder. At the same time the credibility gap between it and my $22 AZOR AP-501 Cattle
Fuzz is small. Very small!!!
