GREAT EASTERN FX DESIGN-A-DRIVE
$230.00 USD |
NOTE: sorry for the pic but others are not downloadable ???
It it wasn't long ago this company made a big splash with their first pedal the Small Speaker Overdrive. It was meant to have a Fender Champ like vibe and was generally agreed to succeed and even ended up a few reviewers boards. The grand prize is always to end up on a reviewers board. This pedal is 'meant' to allow you anything from a transparent sound to a high gain sound. You can get a dark fat woolly sound to a near treble boost Brian May thing. The layout is gain, edge which is a presence w/treble control, level and a tone control. A lot is going on with the tone control. It is a rotary switch with 6 different voices. It must be using a series of band pass filters as you turn it.
CONCLUSION
It does indeed have 6 very different sounds in it. The overall vibe is of some
old small late 40's or early 50's American amp using 6L6 or 6V6 power tubes.
If you need the huge sounds and often much better sustain of amps from the 70's
it just isn't here. I can't blame it for what it isn't.
.
the fine print
I hate the stupid marketing. In this case we are
expected to see this pedal as the miracle of tech genius
but a simple and humble old tweed amp at
the same time. Is the total bullsh@t necessary???
It is a pleasing but overpriced pedal. I'll leave it at that.
