These days there are as many companies making a BB as there are Tube Screamers. Hundreds is NOT an exaggeration.
There are 4 kinds. First, hand made dead on copy's made from NOS parts. Then others that use the same topography substituting different but close to, original parts. Still others only use the blueprints as a starting place and get so far away from it it barely sounds like a BB. It may be a big deal when it comes to popularity but the King of Tone is a BB and it doesn't sound like one at all.
Then there are the 'must have', ...new breed gourmet ones, lol. They have crazy amounts of headroom and military spec parts. Finally there are others that use new parts that vary from cheap to not bad and just copy the blueprint.
This makes it a bitch to choose because you can easily buy one kind only to feel
fu*ked over because it is like thinking you ordered a super transparent clean OD and get a Fuzz.
Pedals like the the $75.00, Chicago Stompworks Blooze Maker use affordable old Russian military parts etc and give you something in the ballpark of the original. The JHS Morning Glory so faraway from the original that it is a joke. Finally the Browne Amplification which I love is a super high headroom stone cold clean transparent pedal at low gain settings but is recognizable as a BB at higher gain.
CONCLUSION
The Demon I suspect is using the original design but substituting the old parts with new parts of a very good quality. It may have even modded it to match one of the makers who have been around 10 years or so like Blammo who make many classic Fuzz, OD or modulation pedal etc. They use easy to get parts.I prefer the Chicago Blooze Maker for a budget pedal because it has it's vibe close to the real one. But since getting the pricey Browne Carbon I love the overkill transparency and fullness better. It is to me not a better BB but just a better low gain OD.
NOTE: The video's are weak. The first is under recorded and the second too much into higher gains even though guys buy a BB for low to medium gain. I put in the Blammo for a comparison demo because the Demon pedals usually can nail any $150.00 pedal and keep in the $35 to $50 range
.
Thank you Paul!
