OVERDRIVE- ELECTRO-HARMONIX Hot Tubes ...since the 70's it is hide & seek

 electro-harmonix
hot tubes
It was introduced in 1978 and dropped in 1984. A reissue was made between 2001 and 2007. In 2009 the Nano was released in a board friendly Hammond 1590 B enclosure.
It was meant as a boost for tube amps to push them into a higher gain. It more importantly was meant to have a tube sound itself.
To do this it was an early adopter of FET transistors and ran at around 30 volts for real amp like headroom. It needed to use more power than a 9v battery. Hence the first models had a heavy power chord attached.
A second model went for a compromise of a 12v adapter. The current model uses a charge pump to increase the voltage to the
originals spec and uses a standard 9v adapter. So...
even the nano is 11 years old.
$80.00 USD
          NOTE:
E-H keeps their marketing in-house. Unlike  most makers they do not send out
pedals to the youtube reviewers. They also take pedals out of production for long
periods of time and then pop up with a campaign like it is a new pedal. Such a
push is currently underway. The nano version has been missing for awhile.
THE NANO
The nano is quietly back, lol
I will not get into the 'is it?' debate.
The layout is Volume, Gain and Tone.
CONCLUSION ___
Its voice is open, full and chunky. It has a laid back vibe. It is really more
of a medium gain Crunch pedal. The sustain is disappointingly poor and in spite of its headroom it gets muddy. Best for single coils and/or bridge PU's.
The pedal has a lot of warmth and character and I feel would lay behind
vocals and other soloists excellently. The price is bang on!!!

The NUX Plexi Crunch is not the same animal
but it fills the same purpose and
shines best when used with single coils.
Especially a Tele bridge PU. _$60.00 USD

  1. Do you still use the Techtone Turbo Nonna ?

  2. No it died and there is no repair where I am located so I would have to ship it back. The short story is I do not think the shop is any longer full time and other priorities have taken over off site.

    1. What a shame ? Would it be still on your board if it had not died ?
