HOW TO __REALLY__CHOOSE A GUITAR

HOW I GOT WRONG

I have 10 guitars but I really only play 6. My Fender Custom Shop Strat and my Gibson '59 Les Paul Special and my Martin are not one of those six. LOL

You should not pick a guitar because your favorite player has one nor because the whole world things it's cool. Most COOL guitars only became cool because the guy saw it on the wall of a store and the damn thing said "Play me." He did ...you heard him ...you copied his choice ...LOL
In short you will be the happiest when you just have to look at your guitar and want to grab it. Better still you will improve your playing again, and again if you can not leave the thing alone.

One great thing is that you can always upgrade hardware and PU's so you can get the sound you want.
YES ...you can make bad choices but you can try again.

HOW I GOT IT RIGHT

I bought with my heart ...not my intellect.
None of these guitars cost over $500.00 US to buy. I have new, used, on sale etc. but I put a lot of money in some of them. Only the PRS and the Ibanez have nothing done to them. The Fender Duo-Sonic was gutted.
One thing they all have in common is a very good fit and finish and they all use good tonewoods. These are things are very important as you can not realistically fix bad workmanship and nothing can fix inferior wood. Hardware and PU's are secondary as they can easily be upgraded.
The wood will only improve with age.

This is NOT a Dano ...but it was made by them for Sears in 1963. Sears as you know went bankrupt just months ago.
 SILVERTONE 1449
It is not hollow it is virtually all mahogany.
It now has a Duncan Pearly Gates PAF in the bridge and a Q handwound '64 (Hendrix) Strat PU in the neck.

I will try to get a pic taken and put it here asap.
Because the guitar is mahogany with PAF on it the guitar sounds like a Gibson SG.

The Strat PU really seems strong enough to do what it was meant to.
I get a convincing late 60's Stat sound going thru  my Marshall Plexi.  :-)

Still out there $525.00 USD

__________________________________________________________________________

the Airline H44 DLX a replica of a
' 55 HARMONY H88 STRATOTONE DOUBLET
with thanks to me it has a ...

Duncan Pearly Gates hiding under a 50's 'Toaster' Rickenbacker PU
cover in the bridge
a '58 Harmony DeArmond S style gold foil in the neck and a Fender Mustang bridge.

The original bridge is wood. It sucks up the sustain and you can not.
accurately intonate the strings.
I finished it off by finding the correct knobs

The body is solid ash with a very thick maple neck
on a recording  you would easily mistake this as an LP
it weighs the same but sustains even longer.

It has a killer tone!
It reminds me of Bernie Marsdens LP
mods were pricey ...with PU's new bridge, the correct knobs and labor
but worth every penny!!!

The above is a stock model  it sells now for $600.00 USD
with the correct bridge the wrong knobs and 2 mini HB
that look a bit like the original DeArmonds but are not.
To be fair the PU's are not obtainable.
I used a gold foil  from the '58 Stratotone because
although it is a completely different guitar the PU is still available.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

2017 PRS SE 245
Paul designed the PU's in this himself to get a 50's LP sound
It does. Mahogany body & neck with a maple cap & rosewood fretboard
It is beyond beautiful as it was hand picked for the 2017 NAMM trade show as a display guitar I got it for half price   :-)

___________________________________________________________________________________________

2009 IBANEZ JET KING
actually a  Guyatone LG130T
For the first few years Ibanez did not even make guitars they
were a marketing company and bought Guyatone guitars with
Ibanez stamped on them to sell in the US

Solid mahogany with a maple neck & rosewood fretboard
So this is a reissue LOL
It has the fattest sound I have heard in my life just as it comes.
The PU's are Ibanez P-90 with an added noise cancelling dummy coil.
It kills some of the bite of a P90 but it gives you a massive killer mid range.
a retro guitar fatter then a Metal guitar ...now the 'is' funny  LOL

With most pics it looks like your average silver finish but it is actually a 'sparkle'
finish just a bit of direct light and it blinding.

I got it recently in mint condition for $225.00 USD  :-)

____________________________________________________________________________________________

GODIN RADIATOR
a knock off of a late 50's Megatone MK III
right down to the PU's that sound like Rickenbacker PU's
as Megatone probably used Ric PU's  as starting point to design theirs.

One cheat however is the Ibanez style 24 fret Metal neck ...LOL
lightning fast!!!!
I put a Duncan Pegasus in the bridge
a Metal PU.

The whole guitar is maple!
It does however have a huge tone chamber scooped out of it.
Godin are most famous for their acoustic electric hybrids.
It seems at it's best when I use it to substitute
something that I wrote on my Martin.
It does not however let you down going thru some killer
high gain or even a Fuzz when I switch in the Duncan!!!
I love writing songs that require both extremes.
I suspect the tuners are Gotoh
as they do the better OEM for a lot of guitars
and the ones on these are perfect!
I paid $265.00 USD

___________________________________________________________________________________________

CONCLUSION

I love the crazy colours too. Added bonus ...so does any audience.
It is not hard to see I love the look of the old US guitars all made in the Chicago area in the 50's.

Years ago I had a date with a lady and I went on and on about the cool wood grain on an LP as we sat in a club. She said the guitar looked like a brown blob. SHE WAS RIGHT!
Yes the only guys at a club that like that $6000.00 rare wood guitar are other musicians  ...and they hate the guy that owns it. LOL

I go to great lengths to update them but to also disguise my updates with period correct parts. Like Ric 'Toaster' PU covers over the PAF's I even found a German made open top chrome cover to hide my Strat PU in the Silvertone.
The guy that does my work is not cheap...he restores guitars for guys like Clapton and Gilmour.  He has a lot of old bits of hardware from the past that he collects for future restorations. He can even upgrade my tuners to excellent custom Gotoh which come with the correct buttons to match some old crap tuners that look cool but were NFG even when they were even new.
He loves when I come in because I give a free rein to get as creative as he likes. Like putting NOS cupcake knobs on the Harmony ...just like the original!!!

Why don't I sell my Strat and Les Paul then ???
If I keep them and tell you you do not need one to have a world class sound it is believable.

PRS found that guys who bought a US made PRS only played it at home and in the studio.
When they played live they used a SE equivalent. They confessed that the difference was minimal and if they had the guitar damaged or stolen they did not have to sweat it!

OVERDRIVE- JOYO Mike Kerr Lion's Roar ...the Mike Kerr signature pedal

 JOYO MIKE KERR LION'S ROAR
$35.00 USD
=========================
NO! Not the Royal Blood guy but the virtuoso Brazilian guitarist and leader of the Boston band First Bourne.

Joyo have gone the 'Signature' route on this one.
The set up is a standard volume, gain and tone but with an additional knob to tweak your mids.

The sound is fat and full and harmonically rich. It does the 80's Metal thing ...it is not a modern Metal sound.

My guess is what you hear is what you get. It may not be so good used for any articulate chord work and I expect the sustain to be modest at best. But it has nailed the 80's sound which is good for many styles that are 'Hard Rock' orientated.
It could be stacked with another pedal or used for a powerful booster.
.
It is a Joyo so a quality build is a given. The price doesn't hurt either.
If you are just looking for a great cheap OD you can get the Joyo Ultimate Drive which is really a very, very good OCD for the same money. I have 22 OD's and most cost hundreds yet I still have and love the Ultimate Drive

Hey! If you want to know what OD
Mike Kerr or Royal Blood plays it is the
VS AUDIO Royal Flush or you can
get the Straight Flush which is a stripped down
one that will give you the same sounds
Mike uses cheaper.
Check out the Posts for both.

OVERDRIVE-LAWRENCE PETROSS LPD Seventy4 ....snreek peek and a sample :-)

LAWRENCE PETROSS DESIGNS LPD SEVENTY 4

Just a sample of it's sound!
This pedal has not been released.

LPD makes handmade audiophile parts pedals. Mostly OD's.
He has done a series of Marshall amps. The SIXTY 8 the EIGHTY 7 and soon to be released
the SEVENTY 4
I have the SIXTY 8 and a prototype the LPD D.C.M.D. I have already heard the prototype of the
SIXTY 4  months ago.
I would not part with any of these pedals.
The SIXTY 4 has got me in a sweat waiting for it's release.
Video does not do them justice because there is so much exquisite harmonic detail in the sound of all his pedals.

OVERDRIVE- SNAKE OIL FINE INSTRUMENTS ...The Very Thing & Marvelous Engine ...Rob Chapman has a pedal company!!!!

 SNAKE OIL INSTRUMENTS

Good ol' Rob Chapman is back again. Forget the guitars he has pedal company and a made in the UK one at that.
_________________________________________________________________________________

$200.00 USD
 THE VERY THING
The first is a an Overdrive/ boost that sports the simple Gain, volume and tone of hundreds of pedals.
The sound is based off of a 4558 Dual Opamp. Surprise! surprise so is a Tube Screamer. LOL
Of course the Boss OD-1 is another candidate. I suspect it is the ts he wanted. It is a bullet proof choice for the cautious.

To be fair it has great natural tube sounding voice.
Damn good for a new company.

______________________________________________________

 MARVELOUS ENGINE
$200.00 USD

His second offering is an OD with a simple gain, distortion, tone and level.Inside the box is a switch for even more clipping.
It is a very nice medium gain pedal with a Marshall JTM 800 vibe.
I like this much more. Even when pulled back the tone is both rich but still has a bit of attitude.

CONCLUSION
Even with hundreds of OD's to choose from his two offerings hold their own. Well worth considering. The Steam Punk look of the boxes and even the companies name is a dead cool touch!!!   Well done Rob :-)

REVERB- EVENTIDE Rose Delay ...a cheaper hands on unit for the real world

$350.00 USD
 EVENTIDE ROSE DELAY

Yes an Eventide delay made for players not for the rocket scientist.
By using a analog for filtering and feedback this very powerful digital delay has your ears telling you you are listening to an analog sound.

It is simple to use big and bold enough to see on a dark stage for a quick set up between tunes.Definitely a contender in it's price range!

CONCLUSION
Not an easy call there are dozens of good delays. I bought the Empress Echosystem simply because it is quite literally state of the art. It has 2 delays in one box too. But it is $550.00 USD.
I since bought the Foxgear Echosex Baby fox $125.00 USD. It is a take on the Binson Echorec made famous by Dave Gilmour and I absolutely love it. I use both and you just cannot but love the best. BUT! ...lf I had the Foxgear first I may have just stopped there completely happy.

OVERDRIVE- LANEY BLACK COUNTRY CUSTOMS Monolith Distortion ...Laney has done a Boost pedal but this is their first OD ...

 LANEY BLACK COUNTRY CUSTOMS
MONOLITH DISTORTION
$170.00 USD

So this is Laney's first OD and like their Booster made in the UK. It is so new the paint's wet.
I am sure it would not be called Black Country Customs if Laney started making pedals from scratch. I expect Laney accumulated the company to have a product that added to or even improved the sound of a Laney amp.It indeed does just that!

The pedal has a gain, volume, and tone controls a low end cut to tighten the sound. A 3 way switch lets you  take the sound from a low gain to medium gain to a high gain OD.
It is predictably well designed and well made. It is versatile and covers a lot bases from a virtual boost pedal to a full metal tone ...doing all 3 is nothing new but doing them well is yet another. Tom Quayle is
already a big fan.
It is obviously not a Tube Screamer but one must keep in mine that it was designed to add and boost. like a ts it is meant to add to an already great sound.
It is not a a self contained modeling of an amp. it was not designed to go into a clean neutral sounding amp and become the entire 'personality' of your sound.

CONCLUSION
Definitely worth putting on the short list. I would put this beside anything you were thinking of for a long comparison before I dismissed it.
It is a kind of an 'Emperor' Tube Screamer.
So keep that in mind it is not meant to turn a Fender into a Brit Tone Stack it is meant to take that same Fender and make it a Super Fender.

ME??? No I am in the camp of setting my amp to a pleasant but chunky clean sound and choose a pedal to own the sonic space. As a result I have 22 OD's.
So 'My Sound' is actually 22 sounds.

FENDER Alternate Reality - METEORA half the price!!!

$2000.00 USD
FENDER METEORA

Last year Fender brought this guitar out in their
limited edition US made Parallel Universe line.
A lot of guys hated the shape ...but they were
the same guys that in 1954 thought Fenders new guitar the Stratocaster should look like a Les Paul :-)

This year Fender will bring out a variation as a MIM model.

$1000.00 USD

I would have preferred a Fender Hardtail bridge and a maple fretboard. I hate the Pau Ferro ...it is not hard enough to give you that nice zing of maple and not as soft as rosewood so you do not get the warmth. A lot of game playing as Indian rosewood has been farmed for decades to make the centurys old ...and still popular Indian carvings so it is not and never has been an endangered species and is 100% legal.
Why does Fender put a Tune-o-matic 'Gibson' bridge on their guitars? It is neither cheaper nor does it sound better or give you more sustain ???

Still it is nice to at least have the guitar. It will
only be out in May and it will be all sold pre-ordered.
This will be a collectors item ...guaranteed!
In 10 or 20 years young guys will think you
were crazy to dis this guitar when you could
 of had for small change.
I am 72 ...I've been here before and watch my contemporaries laugh at the classics when
they came out.
One last thing ...the US one will become
part of the standard line this year.

KEELEY ELECTRONICS ...NEW FOR 2019

NAMM 2019 NEW FROM KEELEY
A sample of all the new Keeley pedals.

I was expecting an EH Oceans 11 type pedal at a low price. But not to be. An echo with a Flanger on the tails of the echo? In theory a good idea ...but a bit of a yawn.

Some of the Synth -1 sounds are interesting but like most of the synth things they work crudely on application. A big help would be memory presets to store your 'patches'. Without it ...it gets tough to use it live.

The whole industry has run out of ideas. All we are getting are endless gimmick pedals playing around with modulation. Once the novelty wears off you have one flashy song in your set because the same sound on another tune will be boring for not only you but your audience as well.

FENDER RELEASES NEW PEDALS ...Page's Tele's & amp and Ron Thorn's California Special guitar ...and a lot more

WINTER NAMM 2019

Fender will release 6 new pedals this weekend. Except for the picture there are no videos or even some info.
So reviews will follow ASAP.

The Pinwheel is a Leslie Speaker emulator which unusual as Fender usually sticks close to basics. The Downtown Express is for bass players and if well done it could do well as bass players are not given much of a selection by anyone.

I am looking forward to MTG Tube Distortion. Rumor has it that it was designed by Bruce Egnater using a real NOS 6205 preamp tube.

Ron Thorn's California Special but will they release it as a product we all can get???

GODIN TO SHOW NEW ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC GUITARS AT NAMM

OVERDRIVE- MXR Dookie OD ...Two pedals in one ???

 MXR DOOKIE OD

OK...yes it is another NAMM pedal to be released next week.
It is a signature pedal for Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong.

He now has 2 Gibson's with his name attached so now it's pedals.

Some of you will already note that the name of the pedal is from Green Day's first record and the artwork is the cover of that same
CD. It is now 25 years since that first recording that sold big time when it was released.
He has two amps he likes and often uses together ...so MXR put the voice of both in the box and you can blend the two.

GIBSON NAMM 2019 BACK TO BASICS !!!! ....Sneak Preview

GIBSON GET'S REAL

All these guitars are either '50's or 60's spec right down to the electronics. They are expected to be presented as standard issue guitars NOT limited edition either.
There isn't any pricing yet but they are expected not to be over priced.
I would expect around $2500.00 USD

A '59 double cut Junior will join the line up as well.
As for the totally new there will be the 'Les Paul Modern' and the 'SG Modern'
Gibson surveyed a lot of Pro's to see what it should be. Expect a fast neck with access to the upper frets, maybe even a 2 octave neck an ebony fretboard and a very light weight split pickups with push pull controls. In short borrow the
best elements of the better copy and 'me too' LP's of other American brands.
This is all hush, hush at the moment but in a week we will all know.

I must admit I have my eye on the '59 LP

Be sure to check here every day of the show ( Jan.24 - Jan.27) for what's new!

Saturday, January 19, 2019

OVERDRIVE- NANOLOG AUDIO Classic Overdrive ...NEW for 2019!!!

 NANOLOG AUDIO CLASSIC OVERDRIVE
$235.00 USD
Nothing looks different from 2018 Edmonton Canadain companys pedal so I can only guess this is a v.2 model to be launched at next weeks NAMM show.

It has a volume, gain and both a treble and bass cut with a selection of 4 voices using 4 different diodes. They are a Germanium a Silicon a mn Carbon and a 6 mn Carbon
diode.
The Carbon diodes are a whole new way of creating distortion. But having the 2 classic diodes is always a comfort.

Definitely worth a listen.

CONCLUSION

Promising idea but they have to get the bugs out.
The Germanium and Silicon diodes alone make
this a very good pedal but the carbon thing needs
tweaking to get the volume and gain to work at
a common sweet spot with the other diodes.

FUZZ- KMA Dead Stag ... on onslaught of total mass destruction :-)

 KMA DEAD STAG FUZZ/DISTORTION
$225.00 USD
The German pedal maker are renown for their high quality
but crazy over the top pedals.
This is as close as they get to a conventional sounding pedal.

In spite of great EQ and a choice of filters
it's 'smash you in the face' quality never leaves you. LOL

The 'official' video is quite good. It runs you thru the bells and whistles and gives you a good overview.

CONCLUSION
At it's best it sounds like a Big Muff on steroids!!!
If you love a Fuzz there is a damn lot of tweaking
you can do to get anything from the conventional
to the totally insane!

OVERDRIVE- TSAKALIS AUDIOWORKS Six ...a teaser ...more to come but what I hear I like!!!

 TSAKALIS AUDIOWORKS SIX
$240.00 USD

From Greece comes Tsakalis who will showing off this new overdrive at NAMM.
It is an all in one box consisting of a booster an overdrive and a distortion.
A great first impression. The sound is focused on the mids and has a very, natural earth sound. Definitely in the Brit pedal vein.
It is weak on the lows and has nothing to address that.
But what the hell ...it really does sound good.

It does sound a lot like their Riff Raff pedal which I reviewed
Dec. 2017.

CONCLUSION
We will have to wait for the show and hear a little more
of what it is all about. But this teaser from the company
has me really curious.
So conclusion? There isn't one. :-)

OVERDRIVE- ROCKTRON- Gary Hoey Intiminator Distortion ...a high gain distortion both fat and tight at a good price

ROCKTRON INTIMINATOR DISTORTION
$145.00 USD

The best that I can figure is Gary Hoey is a kind of  Joe Bonamassa wannabe. :-)

Rocktron seemed to have lost their way. The only pedal they still make that is quite good is their Hush noise reduction pedals. Great for cleaning up single coil PU's.

So at any rate a good pedal is a good pedal regardless.
It is a high gain OD that is very fat yet very tight. You can get some really heavy mids yet it keeps it's definition. The mids are actually very even across the spectrum high and low with the resonant point about dead center.

It is also unusually quiet.
It is not voiced for any amp I know of. It reminds me of a King of Tone with a lot more dirt.

CONCLUSION
Not bad. But if this is your tone check out the  Deep Trip Stormy Monday. It has a similar sound but is much more versatile as it sounds really good if you back it off into even a low medium gain distortion.

OVERDRIVE- ROCKTRON Metal Planet ...a high gain pedal with quasi parametric EQ ...CHEAP!!!

ROCKTRON METAL PLANET
$100.00 USD

A rather average dirt pedal made considerably better with good EQ and a considerably great price.
It has the standard Level and gain. It has both
highs and and bass stacked on a pair of knobs. The mids with one knob for amount and another below it to choose what frequency you wish to choose to cut or boost.
It has been around since 2009 and appears to have just been discontinued. Their are plenty of new ones online and used ones as cheap as $30.00 USD.

Saturday, January 12, 2019

FUZZ- RED WITCH Fuzz God III ...64 Fuzz sounds in one pedal

$140.00 USD
RED WITCH FUZZ GOD III

New Zealand company Red Witch has made the FGIII Fuzz  half the size of the FGII yet it can make 64 sounds? Well maybe. LOL
But it's 6 micro switches inside the box give you a lot of variables.
It is hard to not to think that one or two are at least excellent.

It is a silicon Fuzz and has both classic transistors the BC 109B and BC109C. This alone guarantees a lot of potential.

I am using leaked info as this is meant to be unveiled at NAMM in a couple of weeks. YES ANOTHER SBS SCOOP!
The price alone will create a lot of interest!!!

OVERDRIVE-DEEP TRIP Stormy Monday ...impossible not to like !!!

$200.00 USD
 DEEP TRIP STORMY MONDAY

Deep Trip are from Brazil and are best known for their Fuzz Pedals of which they won a Guitar Players Editors pick award for their Hellbender Fuzz. Six months ago I tried to buy it and am still on a waiting list. LOL

I checked out all their pedals and there isn't a bad one in the lot.
The pedals are handmade ...they use the best parts and not only is the art work on the pedals both well done and witty the box is built like a tank in carbon steel.

The Stormy Monday is their first OD. It is damn impressive. You will be surprised by how much change you can make with just a volume, tone and drive.
the sound is always fat, full and warm whether you pull the gain back for a near low gain or dime it.
In a word it has a 'Rich' sound. Unbelievable Rich too.
It really has a sound of it's own. It reminds me of a Plexi in some ways and the infamous King of Tone in others.
BUT! ...once you hear it then I think if you heard it days from now you would remember right away
that it is the Stormy Monday!

MAY 1|19
The waiting list for this sweet treat has been temporarily filled and is once again available
So if ya want it? Now is the time!

___PART 2.___OVERDRIVE-SURPRISE SOUND LAB HVO ...Killer!!! Killer!!! Killer!!!

SURPRISE SOUND LAB HVO

$280.00 USD
Well I took delivery of the HVO that I have been waiting for since October 2018.
Those that have followed the saga from the ...
___PART 1.___ Post
know that this is a pedal that uses a full 250 volts. Except for using FET type transistors instead of tubes in it's design it is virtually what you would find in the preamp section of an all tube gourmet amp.
In short plug this box into input of the effects loop of a gourmet amp and let it sub for the pre and the difference should be negligible. In short you could not tell

IS IT THAT GOOD ?
Please sit down.
YES!!!

We all have different tastes and idea's of what great sound is.
You can argue even when it gets down to a Marshall type pedal that can nail the sound.
Is it the tone ....or is it also the response!!!  If it were just the tone we would all go for digital modeling. On a recording the difference between it and an all tube amp are simply not there.

But try playing a good tube amp for a week if you haven't! Whoa!!!

Well the HVO is like having the tube amp experience. You can not only hear the difference you can feel it!!!!
Two things are noticeable right away. The attack of your pick hitting the string is instant so it blows away every pedal I ever played for transient response.
No matter how much gain you use you can hear clear and accurate string definition.
With nearly all other medium gain let alone high gain pedals if you use finger picking or arpeggio's they turn to mud and you soon learn to save that kind of playing for low gain OD's or just play clean.
The sustain is as good or better then anything I have ever tried.

LIKE ALL GOOD DIRT PEDALS IT HAS A SOUND OF IT'S OWN
well sort of lol
 The HVO pedal...
with everything on the pedal at about 12 o'clock ...it sounds remarkably like the Ceritone 2555 which is a an exact replica of a Marshall Super Lead 100 (Plexi) amp.Yes an amp ...not another pedal!

Go ahead and switch between the pedal video and the real amp!!!
So I will not ask you if you have heard better.

BUT ..have you heard anything closer to a real Marshall???

I have a few pedals on my board I like as much because they have a different sound and I like that too.
Are any of them better?  NO!!
The HVO will very likely over time displace more then a few pedals from my board.

CONCLUSION

I am very close to seeing this as the best OD on the planet.
But I am not quite there yet. All my favourite OD's have their minor short comings. Often It takes a few weeks to spot them. So I will be back to this Post in a few weeks.
What I will say is that if you were to asked me today what medium to high gain pedal should you get I would tell you.
 ...."Get an HVO."

BOOSTER- SPACEMAN Mercury IV ...germanium harmonics booster... a brilliant idea

$345.00 USD
 SPACEMAN MERCURY IV
The idea must have occurred to hundreds of builders
BUT???
A tube sounds great even clean because it exaggerates the even order harmonics . The strongest being the second harmonic. Look at it this way if the second harmonic is virtually a faux octave above the program source then the tone is rich because it is in essence doubled.
So what if you could have a pedal that added the even order harmonics.
It would make your sound automatically fat and lush
.

CONCLUSION
I was expecting a pedal with more of a sound that when in a clean mode it gave you 12 string like overtones without a second string. The fundamental sound is just a presence that is so bright it adds a metallic shine to the sound that sounds very Fuzz like. A cool sound but ...not a big bright warm tone.
Play the video from 8:45 for a minute. I was expecting this approach but more refined.

FUZZ- DIRTY HAGGARD Death Fuzz ...another Super Fuzz??? how does it square up?

$155.00 USD
 DIRTY HAGGARD DH-2 DEATH FUZZ

One of the classics revisited yet again. This time the
UN-VOX SUPER-FUZZ
It has the usual set up for this pedal. A gain a volume and a toggle that switches from the octave sound and the tone
with the low growls. Well I gave it a listen. Why did they bother????
Ananashead makes both a dead perfect clone of the original
and a modernized version. The modern version is still using a lot of NOS so it captures the guts of the original but you get the extras.
I bought their original and it has beat out every Fuzz I added so bad that I dumped the contenders as fast as I bought them. LOL

But you should check out the whole story. You really should!!!
Go to ...

UNIVOX SUPER-FUZZ...IS THERE A PERFECT CLONE

CONCLUSION
Well I gave a listen ...it is just another of about 25 copies. You have just got to read the UNI-VOX Post!!!
Townsend used the UNI-VOX on the LIVE at Leeds still called the best live recording of all time!

The Ananashead Super-Fuzz nails the sound.
A hand made dead on replica of the circuit and for only $90.00 USD.
It is only $125.00 USD to get the v.2 ...it keeps the original circuit and just added some steroids. LOL
